Biblio-Metadata Librarian-26133 Description POSITION SUMMARY Primary responsibilities include: Provide leadership in planning and managing library metadata resources. This position will work to ensure the metadata quality and data integrity of the electronic journals in the Library’s catalog, Sierra, and/or a discovery system; troubleshooting problems arising from subscription, licensing or access-related technical issues including link resolution and federated searching; analyzing/recommending new vendor products that provide ejournal processing; collecting and analyzing usage statistics available for electronic resources; assist in development of class instruction of databases in collaboration with an Information Services librarian to support WCMC-Q’s tripartite mission. POSITION ACTIVITIES - Design effective workflows for managing the Library’s ejournal resources using the library’s Integrated Library System, OCLC, and other select proprietary tools.
a. Maintain the connectivity of URLs. b. Ensure the coverage data is up to date. - Work collaboratively with other DeLib staff members, and relevant library staff at WCMC in New York City and Cornell University in Ithaca to provide access to all relevant electronic resources and to identify new resources that support the curriculum of WCMC-Q.
- Conduct an analysis of the Library collection on a regularly scheduled basis to determine the subject area strengths and weaknesses.
- Maintain and update electronic resources in the Distributed eLibrary applying knowledge of metadata standards and formats including MARC, AACR2+, MeSH, LCSH, RDA, and Dublin Core.
- Participate in the assessment and acquisitions process by conducting evaluations, participating in negotiations, reviewing site licenses and agreements.
- Coordinate with Information Services to design appropriate teaching tools for instructing users on using the Library’s eresources through classroom instruction or workshops offered by the Library.
- Coordinate quality control projects for non-MARC metadata from digital collections. Working closely with the Systems Librarians to harvest these collections as needed.
- Participate in a structured program of Continuing Education through any of the following, but not limited to:
a. Professional association sponsored activities or programs; Commercial organization sponsored activities and seminars; Lectures and demonstrations; or, formal instruction at a university or college in a job related subject. Join AHIP or equivalent professional development program within one year of joining WCMC-Q. b. Conduct research and write for publication (minimum one annual peer-reviewed publication, single or co-authored) relevant to the work of the section and/or to the field of Library and Information Science. c. Participate in professional associations and activities, i.e. professional office, committee membership or leadership, listserv management, website maintenance and others. - Participate and contribute in eLibrary activities such as student orientation, open house, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - Masters degree in library and /or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- At least three years prior experience in electronic resource management, commercial knowledge bases and digital serials management.
- Advanced knowledge of metadata standards and formats including MARC, Dublin Core, AACR2+, MeSH, LCSH and RDA.
- Basic familiarity with standard web tools such as OpenURL, COUNTER, SUSHI.
- Advanced understanding of general library procedures.
- Advanced interpersonal, oral and written English communication skills.
- Previously demonstrated organization and prioritization skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Prior experience working in an academic or research environment, or medical community environment.
- Prior experience with Sierra and/or a discovery system.
