Academic Librarian, Library and learning Commons

Responsibilities:
- The position provides information services and information literacy programs as part of a team for academic staff and students in the STEM Schools (Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine). The position is also member of a team responsible for the provision of information services on a rostered basis at the Library's Service Point.
- Academic librarians are responsible for providing a comprehensive information service, developing library collections to meet the needs of the staff and students of individual schools and collaboratively developing and implementing integrated and embedded information literacy and learning skills programs and activities. Academic librarians have subject responsibilities for a number of areas and this involves, among other duties, liaising and working with academic staff to maximise their engagement with the library.
- Key responsibilities:
- Provide effective information services
- Provide specialist information services working with staff and students, including at physical and virtual service points.
- Develop and promote the library collection to meet the needs of staff and students
- Monitor new developments in teaching and research in areas of subject responsibility.
- Liaise and negotiate with departments in areas of subject responsibility, to alert them to library services, resources and new publications to maximise their engagement with the library.
- Develop Library Impact Statements for new teaching and research initiatives.
- Provide information literacy programs
- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of, information literacy programs, research skills programs and resource discovery and use, for staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students
- Initiate, prepare and conduct programs for areas of subject responsibility in collaboration with other librarians, learning skills advisers and academic staff.
- Liaise with academic staff to ascertain their needs and develop discipline specific integrated and embedded program
- Work in partnership with academic staff and learning skills advisers to establish opportunities to embed skills development within curricula and contribute to the advancement of Monash Malaysia's Multidisciplinary Integrated Skills program.
- Work with the Academic Liaison Manager and the Research and Learning Senior Manager to develop and implement programs that are consistent with Monash University Library standards.
- Participate in, and contribute to the development of library strategies, policies and projects through membership of committees and fora
- Liaise with other library staff to ensure consistency and quality of services across schools
- Represent the Library in internal and external committees and events
- Participate in the development of plans, strategies, policies and procedures with other library staff to achieve the Library's annual goals.
- Implement strategies and policies designed to lead change and further library strategic initiatives.
- Participate in project working groups with library staff as required
- Occupational Health, Safety and Environment
- Take reasonable care to conduct work in a safe manner and to comply with OHS instructions, policy and procedures.
- Participate in OHS meetings, training and other OHS activities as required.
Requirements:
- University degree and/or a tertiary qualification in subject discipline in science, technology, engineering, medicine and/or librarianship, information management; alternatively an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and experience
- At least three years' experience in an academic library, including teaching experience
- Advanced degree or postgraduate qualification will be an asset though it is not a requirement, e.g librarianship, education or in a subject relevant to STEM disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience in the provision of information services, including the delivery of information literacy programs and the development of print and electronic information literacy resources.
- Proven capacity to effectively liaise and negotiate with a range of clients including staff and students.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant subject disciplines, including ability to search electronic resources using advanced techniques.
- Strong communication skills, including oral, written and interpersonal particularly to effectively liaise, report and negotiate with a range of clients including staff and students.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Sound organisational and time management skills including ability to set priorities, work independently or as part of a team, and perform well under pressure.
- Knowledge of trends and issues in learning, and information services in academic libraries.
- Interest for and capacity to engage with new technologies in blended learning and teaching environments.
