Library Specialist, Cataloging & Metadata

Reporting to the Head, Shared Cataloging in the Cataloging & Metadata Department, the Library Specialist, working at an advanced level and independently, is primarily responsible for the creation and interpretation of matching or slightly matching records from a variety of bibliographic utilities; copy cataloging of materials in print and electronic formats and original cataloging of literary works. Determine proper forms for description and review/analyze cataloging records (including access points) according to cataloging rules.


 Bachelor’s degree and extensive experience cataloging monographic materials in print and electronic formats or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Required
* Working knowledge or experience with cataloging standards/rules, OCLC, and cataloging tools
* Good judgment in bibliographic problem solving; excellent analytical skills, and initiative
* Ability to work with a variety of foreign languages
* High level of organizational ability; detail oriented
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Flexibility in prioritizing multiple tasks; time-management skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Basic computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office

Preferred
* Familiarity with RDA
* Knowledge of at least one of the following languages: French, German, Italian, or Spanish
* The ability to lift or move 25 lbs. or less on occasion.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary is set by AFSCME Local 590 Collective Bargaining Agreement, and includes a generous benefits package, additional information available at
