POSITION SUMMARY

The University of Arizona Libraries is seeking on-call Library Specialist, Seniors, during the academic year to assist customers with technology, basic circulation, directional, research questions and to ensure safety of library customers, employees and library material through application of Library and University policies and procedures.

 

During the academic year the Library operates in a 24/5 environment. 

 

The positions are On-Call & Part-Time (Days, Number of Hours and Schedule to be determined); interested candidates may have to work a 4 hour block of time, and a variety of different schedules on short notice.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists customers with circulation, directional and basic reference questions at Main Information and Science-Engineering service sites by utilizing library Integrated Library System and campus websites.

2. Provides basic software/hardware support including troubleshooting basic PC/MAC hardware, printers, laptops and software such as MS Office suite.  As needed, serves as liaison with Library IT staff reporting equipment problems.

3. Performs basic circulation desk functions using library automated software and confidential patron information.

4. Assists staff with student employee direction and workflow.

5. Handles customer service requests/matters related to enforcing Code of Conduct and building monitor activities.

6. Serves as a liaison with UAPD (reporting criminal activity or emergency situations), Campus/Library Facilities (related to building problems) and Risk Management (reporting incidents).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor's degree AND two years of progressively responsible library experience;

* OR, six years of progressively responsible library, information center or related work experience;

* OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Demonstrated customer service skills in handling public contact responsibly and effectively in understanding customer needs.

2. Comprehensive understanding of various types of reference sources (i.e. library catalog, indexes, search engines, print resources) and their appropriate use, including understanding the differences between primary and secondary resources.

3. Ability to communicate effectively, professionally and maintain confidentiality of patron record information.

4. Demonstrated ability with word processing, spreadsheet, web creation, presentation, email, scanning, CD burning, internet search engine software and basic troubleshooting of computers, software, printers and photocopy machines.

5. Maintain a professional and impartial stance on all safety, security and emergency situations.

6. Ability to work effectively, follows established policies and procedures and conduct oneself ethically and appropriately.

7. Ability to keep detailed and accurate records by demonstrating written reporting skills (using email) including the proper use of grammar, punctuation and spelling.

8. Must maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

 

PAY RATE:  $13.17/hour (Non-Exempt); ineligible for benefits.
