Head of Access & Delivery Services, Dartmouth College

The Dartmouth Library seeks a forward-thinking, enthusiastic, and intellectually curious individual as its next Head of Access & Delivery Services.  Reporting to the Associate Librarian for User Services, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and develop long-range plans for Access & Delivery Services areas and technologies within the Dartmouth Library system to meet the evolving needs for managing the Library’s physical collection while building on the exceptional delivery services supporting faculty, students, staff, and other library users. 

 

Responsible for managing the Baker-Berry Library Access Services areas of circulation, reserves, resource sharing, and stacks maintenance; the off-campus shelving facilities; and the Library’s Shipping & Receiving operations, the Head of Access & Delivery Services directly supervises five staff and oversees a department of twenty-nine.  The Head also works closely with other library and college departments to ensure a coordinated approach to services. The individual in this position will be knowledgeable of broad issues of importance to the library profession and maintain expert level knowledge of trends, policy issues and new technologies having particular relevance to Access Services. 

 

The Head of Access & Delivery Services is a member of the Library Management Group which advises the Library Leadership Group and develops recommendations about Library system-wide priorities, resources, and policies; and coordinates resulting services.

QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited program and a minimum 5 years of increasingly responsible management and supervisory experience in an academic library, preferably in a large ILL/Document Delivery or Circulation/Reserve operation.  Experience with integrated library system software.  Proven leadership, management and interpersonal skills that encourages teamwork.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Demonstrated ability to foster and manage change in a fast-paced environment.  Understanding of information and bibliographic management systems and their application to access and user services.  Knowledge of copyright and fair-use practices in an academic environment.  Strong commitment to excellence in library user services.  Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.

 

RANK AND SALARY: The position is part of the Librarian Classification System of Professional Ranks. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Full benefits package including 22 vacation days; comprehensive health care; retirement plans, including TIAA-CREF; and relocation assistance.
