Kansas State University Libraries invite applications and nominations for the position of Undergraduate & Community Services Specialist. To support K-State's 2025 Visionary Plan's goal to promote undergraduate student success, members of the highly collegial Undergraduate and Community Services Department provide and assess excellent reference, research, and student learning activities, as well as participate in outreach and engagement activities with undergraduate and community groups. As a Specialist in the UCS department, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to enhance undergraduate student learning and success using innovative practices.
This is a full-time unclassified professional position, and the candidate should have a commitment to continued professional development. This position reports to the Undergraduate and Community Services Librarian who is the Instruction Team Leader, but will be active in the department's reference, instruction, and outreach programs.
Main Responsibilities:
· Provide patron-centered reference and learning services/resources in a team-based environment to include: leading tours, teaching classes, maintaining learning tools, and providing reference in-person or via chat
· Serve as a member of the Instruction Team to facilitate instruction projects for the department
· Develop and maintain expertise in resources and needs of patron group(s)
· Participate in orientation and outreach activities
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Demonstrated ability to use library resources such as a catalog and databases
· Ability and willingness to work with colleagues in collaborative and team environments as well as independently
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong user-centered service orientation
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours
Preferred Qualifications
· Demonstrated record of success working with or providing services for diverse groups
· Experience working with undergraduate students in an academic setting
· Comfort with public speaking
· Bachelor's degree or experience working in the life sciences, education, or business
· Experience providing user-centered reference or instruction services, online or in-person
