Nazarbayev University
Astana, Kazakhstan
Posted: 9 December 2011
Several exciting international positions are available for new or experienced librarians! Join a multi-national library team and have significant influence on the development of a new university library. This is a rare opportunity for enthusiastic and innovative librarians to gain international experience and contribute to development of a western style library.
Nazarbayev University opened in September, 2010 and the library has grown rapidly! Collections, staff, facilities, and ideas are new and moving quickly forward. Be part of this team and contribute to the very early development of an academic library in Kazakhstan, an opportunity seldom found. Whether in public services, as science or engineering subject liaison librarian, reference librarian, digital librarian, or cataloguer there are opportunities available for the best candidates. Join this library team as a new graduate with good digital skills who wants to work internationally, or as an experienced librarian who wants to contribute western style library skills and experience. An ALA accredited MLS or equivalent is necessary, and international applicants with native Russian language skills are encouraged to apply.
Programs in science and engineering are the main focus of this new university. English is the language of instruction, although Russian and Kazakh are widely used in Astana and in university written documents. English is generally spoken in the library, by both staff and students. The faculty is primarily international, with a significant group from the U.K. and U.S.A. In addition to core programs in science, engineering, English, social sciences, and humanities, several centers of research advance knowledge in: Education policy, life sciences, energy resources, and Kazakh language and culture. The library provides resources for a wide range of student, faculty, and research needs.
Interested applicants are encouraged to make contact. Further information can then be made available about the specific position of interest, and questions answered. Twelve month contracts are available, and review of candidates begins 19 December until the positions are filled. Email: library@nu.edu.kz or JAgee@nu.edu.kz or telephone: +7-7172-706325.
