Santa Clara County Library District invites applications for the position of Manager, Virtual Library. This is a newly created position to manage the Santa Clara County Library District’s fast-growing virtual services, including the Library website, social media, blogs, eBooks, downloadable media, mobile application, and dozens of online databases. The position is based at the Library Administration offices in Los Gatos, manages the staff of the Virtual Library division, and reports to the Deputy County Librarian for Information Technology and Collection.
Santa Clara County Library District is one of the most heavily used and most well funded library systems in the country. The Library is one of eleven libraries nationwide to be included in the top ten libraries in its population category in every published edition of Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings Survey. In addition to a broad range of electronic content and services, the Library District includes seven community libraries and one branch in addition to administrative offices, bookmobile service and a literacy program. $33.39 - $40.61 Hourly

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Possession of a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or Library Science that was obtained from a graduate school accredited by the American Library Association (ALA)
-AND-
One (1) year experience as journey level Librarian responsible for administering electronic resources.
Supervisory or lead experience is desirable.
Possession of a valid California driver’s license prior to appointment, and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County Driver’s permit.
Knowledge of:
Principles, practices and techniques of modern public administration, with special reference to organization, personnel management, and budgetary preparation and control;
Principles of management including training, directing, evaluating and supervising subordinates;
Library tools, methods and procedures; classification and cataloging systems and principles;
Principles and techniques of material selection and evaluation to establish balanced library collections;
Web design and web development tools;
Integrated library system functionality;
Library programs and services;
The selection, evaluation and organization of digital library materials.
Ability to:
Plan, organize and conduct Library programs for all age groups;
Supervise, train and evaluate subordinate staff;
Advise and instruct patrons in the use of library facilities, reference tools and digital resources;
Demonstrate effective and tactful oral and written communications in serving a wide variety of individuals and diverse communities;
Use library tools effectively;
Analyze community needs and develop programs and policies to meet those needs;
Define problems, collect and process data, and reach valid conclusions to solve problems and develop programs and procedures;
Recommend and/or select library materials for purchase using library selection techniques; Make budget recommendations for program; monitor and control allocated.
TYPICAL TASKS
Plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and maintains the Library’s online resources and presence;
Keeps abreast of new trends in information technology and the needs of the community in order to maintain and manage all aspects of the Library’s digital collection;
Recommends digital materials to be purchased or purged;
Hires, trains, schedules, supervises, evaluates and disciplines staff;
Assists in making system policy decisions and developing procedures for the Virtual Library that are compliant with the applicable County’s Information System’s Department (ISD) and American Disabilities Act (ADA) policies;
Assists in selecting vendors, developing service agreements and managing vendor projects in key technical/digital areas;
Leads system-wide committees such as the Database Committee and Bookmarks Committee;
Familiarizes and trains library patrons in the use of digital materials; promotes reading and use of digital resources for all ages;
Gathers and analyzes data for various internal library reports; develops and presents statistical reports on use of electronic resources and the web environment;
Plans, develops organizes, conducts, publicizes and evaluates appropriate programs, products and initiatives;
Collaborates with local educational and community agencies on projectsand presentations; conducts presentations to community groups to promote the Library’s online services;
Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the County Library; monitors and allocates spending for programs;
Acts as a representative of the Library in providing information to vendors to achieve compatibility with Santa Clara County Library computer systems;
Coordinates the Integrated Library System (ILS) with circulation and information systems staff and develops procedures for use in all outlets;
Collaborates with information technology staff in analyzing and resolving automation problems; evaluates selected software and hardware products and assesses their feasibility;
Participates in professional organizations and attends workshops and meetings;
May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker, as required;
Performs other related duties as required.
