Coordinator of Access Services/Reference Librarian Delgado Community College City Park Campus, New Orleans, LA
Job Summary/Basic Function:
Delgado Community College City Park Library seeks an innovative, service-oriented librarian to lead the Access Services Department. In a technological environment requiring the use of multiple electronic systems, the Coordinator of Access Services leads and manages a team whose mission is to ensure that Delgado Community College students, faculty, and staff as well as any outside agencies, have access to the library's resources. The Coordinator of Access Services organizes and manages staff to cultivate and maintain a user-centric environment in which these resources are used. Candidates should be able to work a flexible schedule, which includes evenings and weekends. The person in this position reports directly to the College-wide Dean of Library Services.
The successful candidate will have: knowledge and interest in library issues related to reference services; evidence of a strong understanding of electronic and print resources used in libraries; strong commitment to library access service; excellent interpersonal, oral, analytical, and organizational skills, and demonstrated skill providing reference services and bibliographic instruction.
Minimum Qualifications/ Work Experience:
Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program.
Equivalent of two (2) years of full-time relevant supervisory experience in library circulation and access services, including organizing staff goals, schedules, and workflow.
Relevant experience (minimum one year) administering a library circulation system and supporting access service technologies Creative leadership in developing, implementing and evaluating superior user services based on needs assessment.
Experience in dealing with a variety of constituencies, such as faculty, staff, students and outside agencies, using excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a highly visible, user-heavy environment.
Ability to interpret, apply and explain library policies to constituencies, handling emotional situations in a professional manner and treading the fine line between policy enforcement and user education of library responsibility.
Experience extracting data from a system database to generate reports, analytical skills to perform data analysis.
Ability to achieve project goals within established timelines.
Interpersonal skills for conflict resolution and team work.
Commitment to staff team and professional development in a complex service environment.
Knowledge of copyright law basics.
Knowledge of broad trends and issues in access services and related technologies.
Preferred Qualifications/ Work Experience:
Experience with SirsiDynix Symphony library system.
Equivalent of three or more years of relevant supervisory experience in an academic library.
