Head of Access Services

 

The University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries seeks a user-focused, collaborative Head of Access Services to provide effective leadership and management for the Access Services Department at the John Peace Library and for a satellite library, the Applied Engineering and Technology Library. The department supports the teaching and research goals of the UTSA faculty, students, and staff, facilitating access to resources through circulating collections, print and electronic reserves, and technology lending.

 

The Head of Access Services is responsible for access services policies and procedures across the Libraries and coordinates access services operations with the Downtown Campus Library.  In collaboration with library and campus colleagues, the Head ensures building safety and security and carries out policies to provide a productive learning environment in the Libraries.  The position is responsible for hiring, training, and managing approximately 12 staff members and 25 students in the department.  In the near future, the Libraries will select a new integrated library system, and the position will contribute expert knowledge of ILS circulation and reserves functions as a key member of the implementation team.  The Head also investigates, develops, and implements 21st century access services, working with other managers and staff to develop programs and services that meet changing user needs.  Additionally, the Head provides input into the Libraries' strategic planning process as a member of the Library Management Team. 

 

Qualifications & Experience

 

Required:

-   Masters degree from an accredited institution.

-   Five years of experience in access services (circulation, interlibrary loan, or reserves).

-   Two years of supervisory experience.

-   Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and flexibly in a complex, changing environment.

-   Ability to provide leadership for the delivery of excellent customer service.

-   Outstanding oral and written communication skills.

-   Excellent interpersonal skills.

-   Use of standard office equipment including library and business PC applications. 

 

Preferred:

-   Experience managing library circulation functions using an integrated library system.

-   Experience working with diverse populations.

 

Salary:  Minimum $55,000 / flexible, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full‐time A&P, benefits‐eligible position.
