The Allen County Public Library is seeking a librarian experienced in collection development to take on the role of Adult Collection Development Coordinator for our library system.
Responsibilities:
Select all new and upcoming books, in both print and electronic format, for adult collections system-wide with input from department and branch managers.
Ensure all agencies select adequate replacements and retrospective titles for their individual adult collections.
Monitor customer request emails and investigate the request and/or forward as appropriate. Respond to customers as needed.
Remain in constant communication with all branches and agencies serving adults by sharing selection carts with them and requesting their feedback on those carts.
Coordinate creation of reading lists to be sent to local media.
Responsible for statistical and activity reports as requested by the director’s office and/or associate director.
Review and revise the standing orders with book distributors as needed, at least once annually.
Visit all library locations on a regular basis to review the adult collection in-person and discuss adult collection development needs with staff.
Manage the collection budget for adult books, which entails tracking spending throughout the year and suggesting changes in the budget for future years based on the current year’s performance.
Set system-wide goals, philosophies, and expectations for adult collection development and measuring to what extent those goals have been reached.
Become well-versed in Collection HQ and train other staff in using it for collection management purposes.
Attend Branch and Main Operations meetings to stay up-to-date on current system-wide events and inform those groups of any collection development news.
Remain up-to-date with current and upcoming trends in adult literature as well as collection development by attending relevant conferences and trainings and reading relevant journals.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree Required, Field of Study: Library Science from a school accredited by the American Library Association.
2 plus years of experience in collection development and collection management for a multi-location library system.
One plus years of experience working as a librarian, performing public service tasks such as reference desk work and programming.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word and Excel.
Must apply for and maintain Indiana Library Certification, earning 50 LEU (Library Education Units) within five years.
