This position is responsible for creating strategies and building partnerships to develop, assess, and maintain an online instruction program within University Libraries for strategic integration into online and blended courses and programs.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in conjunction with other librarians and a dedicated learning designer to develop and deliver learning objects and create content to be embedded in course pages and learning management systems.
- Work closely with subject librarians, instructional librarians, campus librarians, and support staff to provide comprehensive online learning support to Penn State students and faculty.
- Provide online learning support, consulting training, and communications to library faculty, staff, and units in order to enhance the instructional efficiency and learning outcomes of University Libraries.
- Evaluate new instructional technologies for possible application to Library instructional services.
- Collaborate with integration of Library services into Penn State learning management system(s).
- Partner with subject librarians and campus librarians serving online and blended programs to support the development of online instructional materials.
- Evaluate effectiveness of learning objects and other content developed as part of overall learning outcomes assessment.
- Develop, implement, and facilitate workshops and presentations on the pedagogy of online and blended instruction.
- Pursue professional development to keep current on trends and developments in the pedagogy and delivery of online and blended learning and information literacy.
- Actively participate in campus discussions related to educational technologies and ensure open communication and collaboration with campus instructional technology units.
Required:
- MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program, or a Master’s degree in a related field.
- Experience teaching information literacy through in-person or online instruction.
- Experience working with learning management systems.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a collegial environment.
- Educational background or second Master’s degree in Education or related field.
- Experience training and supervising staff, interns, or student assistants.
- Participation in any of the ACRL Information Literacy Immersion Program tracks.
- Experience building partnerships to enhance learning and student success.
- Experience with outcomes assessment of student learning.
- Experience with curriculum development.

The successful candidate will have an office within close proximity to a dedicated Learning Designer in the World Campus in Innovation Park on the University Park campus.
The University Park campus is set in the State College metropolitan area, a university town located in central Pennsylvania. State College offers a vibrant community with outstanding recreational facilities, a low crime rate, and excellent public schools. The campus is within a half-day drive to Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, or Pittsburgh. The University Park Airport is served by three major carriers with flights to Washington, Philadelphia, and Detroit. Compensation:
Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include liberal vacation, excellent insurance and health care coverage, state or TIAA/CREF retirement options, and educational privileges. In addition, faculty in the University Libraries are afforded funds for professional development travel annually. Faculty may be asked to travel as official representatives of the Libraries to certain events and those trips are reimbursed at full cost within limits established by the University.
