Duties:
Reporting to the Legislative Librarian, the Systems and Library Technology Manager is responsible for planning, developing, and managing the Legislative Library's information systems and products. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall administration and strategic direction of the Legislature's website, the day to day management of the Library's integrated library system, and maintenance of the library's digital collections. In addition the incumbent provides expertise and advice on database design and on the direction of information technology for the Legislative Library and the Nova Scotia Legislature as a whole.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall administration and strategic direction of the Legislature's website, the day to day management of the Library's integrated library system, and maintenance of the library's digital collections. In addition the incumbent provides expertise and advice on database design and on the direction of information technology for the Legislative Library and the Nova Scotia Legislature as a whole.
The systems and library technology manager oversees the technical services department. He/she provides quality assurance that materials are catalogued according to international standards and local practice; develops cataloguing practices to ensure that information can be extracted for various reports, publications, and other library systems quickly and easily; and provides cataloguing and indexing advice. The systems and library technology manager is part of the managing team of the library and helps develop and analyze policies and procedures with the rest of that team. He/she will also be required to work the library reference desk.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities/competencies, and professional attributes:
- Bachelor's Degree plus post graduate degree in Library Science and 7 years of professional library experience
- Experience with library systems (preferably Innovative Interfaces' Sierra or Millennium) and library desktop applications (MarcEdit)
- Strong understanding of circulation, serials, cataloguing, and acquisitions workflows
- Strong knowledge of relational databases, and proficiency with HTML, XML, and cascading style sheets
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of computer programming and web and mobile-based resources and services
- Knowledge of the MARC format for bibliographic and authority records
- Strong knowledge of best cataloguing practices (AACRII or RDA)
- Ability to master new technologies and remain current on traditional and electronic library service trends
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively and collaboratively with legislative staff, MLAs, and government departments
- Demonstrated creativity and initiative
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong project management skills
- Strong attention to detail

In addition the successful candidate will be customer focused and possess excellent writing, organizational, and time management skills. Experience with PHP and other programming languages; query languages; macros; content management systems (Drupal or Expression Engine) and document management systems (FileNet); database, photo-editing, and publishing software; mobile applications; and Innovative Interfaces' Sierra would be considered assets. The ability to lift heavy boxes full of books would also be considered an asset.
The incumbent must be prepared to work in a non-partisan politically charged environment.

Pay Grade: PR 15
Salary Range: $62 777 - $76 522
