The General Library of the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez campus, seeks an innovative, flexible, user-centered, and visionary director that could serve as leader in library transformation for future generations. Reporting to the Dean of Academic Affairs, this position leads and manages all aspects of the library. The successful candidate must be fully bilingual in English & Spanish and should possess the ability to interact effectively with multiple constituencies. The director will serve as an active representative of the library within the academic community fostering successful partnerships to customize and adapt programs and services that support change within the institution. A thorough understanding of library technology and its applications and a collaborative style to create teamwork environment are expected.

ANNOUNCEMENT OPEN TO GENERAL PUBLIC
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Master's degree (MIS, MLS, MLIS) in Library or Information Sciences from a graduate professional program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA).
- Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
- At least three (3) years of professional experience in an academic library in administrative and supervisory positions with progressive levels of responsibilities.
- Ability to create and sustain an effective and open-collaborative environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the capacity to listen.
- Ability to work with students, faculty, library staff, administrators, and other stakeholders.
- Experience in strategic planning, assessment, and the development of the libraries collections.
- Knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic libraries and demonstrated ability to creatively apply information technologies to enrich the experience of students and faculty.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Second Master's degree or a PhD in Library or Information Sciences.
- Experience allocating funds based upon availability and the needs of its unit in charge.
- Knowledge of issues related to academic communication, including e-research, academic research, data management, and corresponding needs of faculty and researchers.
DUTIES
- Provides leadership and oversight of all administrative activities, including budget, facility, and personnel management to meet current needs and anticipate future priorities.
- Leads the conceptualization, design, implementation, coordination, and management of strategic planning.
- Represents the Library in the Academic Senate, institutional committees, task forces, and accreditation processes.
- Assign responsibilities, creates and reviews position descriptions for library faculty and staff according to the Strategic Plan.
- Administers and regularly assess the effectiveness of library services, technology, and resources availability to continuously improve and enhance student learning, the renewal of academic programs, faculty teaching and research, in general.
- Supports efforts on research, data management, and experimentation.
- Promotes innovation and fosters a future-thinking organizational culture based on assessment.
- Builds and maintains relationships with the academic community.
- Provides guidance and feedback related to Library initiatives.
- Proactively promotes the search of external grants projects for the Library.
- Leads the transformational changes that are required to meet the challenges of the 21st century, in all library-related fields. In particular, promotes and facilitates the evolving roles of librarians in teaching and academic research.
