Job Purpose: Along with the Information Literacy Coordinator at the University's other campus, provides leadership and guidance for the information literacy program based upon the institutional commitment to lifelong learning. Critical Success Factors: · Constant development of knowledge of effective pedagogical practice as it relates to information literacy · Seen as a campus leader in developing information literacy program and the use of technology to teach information literacy skills · Ability to make the Library and Learning Commons an exciting place for learning and personal development · Experience in libraries, instructional design and teaching · Understanding of pedagogy and diverse learning styles · Experience working with students preparing them for college level courses · Experience in ESL (English as a Second Language) and one or more of the following: instruction, teaching writing, math education, information literacy and/or information technology training · Flexibility and creativity in learning situations · Ability to cooperate with library team members and with faculty throughout the university Tasks and Responsibilities: · Lead the Library's efforts to develop pedagogically sound learning experiences in collaboration with librarians, teaching faculty and relevant campus partners · Employ relevant technologies to enhance online and face-to-face instruction, including developing social media, learning objects and other instructional tools · Design curriculum-based instruction, enhancing critical thinking skills and building information literacy competencies · Assist in the development of the library's social media presence as it relates to information literacy and demonstrating lifelong learning opportunities · Monitor trends and provide leadership and training for planning, designing, integrating, implementing and promoting use of current or emerging software and technologies relevant to information literacy. · Initiate and oversee staff development for classroom faculty and library faculty and staff · Work with library faculty and administrators on both campuses to establish goals for information literacy assignments and social media · Collect, report, and analyze data on library instruction · Share responsibility for reference work, including some evenings and weekends · Serve as liaison with selected colleges/programs collaborating in collections development and faculty research · In conjunction with library services and selected academic units, create a dynamic program information literacy program · Serve on library and university committees · Seek professional development and research opportunities to maintain currency in the field and contribute to the academy Degree of Independence/ Complexity of Environment: · Work independently and in conjunction with the supervisor of the campus library and other staff · Contribute to the Library's information literacy program by coordinating, designing and delivering course-integrated and course-related instruction both online and in person · Develop good relationships with faculty and must be able to communicate effectively with the entire university community · Work closely with librarians, faculty and students in the creation and delivery of an information literacy plan for reinforcing student learning · Work closely with colleagues in all library units · Work closely with University administrators on the implementation of literacy activities · Responsible to the Supervisor and ultimately to the Director of the Library Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience: · Accredited Master's Degree or Ph.D. in library science or the equivalent · Minimum five years library and teaching experience in a western-style university · Demonstrated understanding of and experience in instructional design principles · Familiarity with the concepts and goals of information literacy · Experience creating interactive online learning materials · Demonstrated ability to learn new technology tools and skills · Experience with teaching university students about existing and emerging technologies · Spoken and written Arabic helpful · Experience in a library or in academic support services Competencies: · Creativity and ability to envision new services · Excellent interpersonal skills · Excellent written and oral communication skills · Ability to teach information literacy and prepare units to be taught by others · Ability to relate well to faculty, students and staff · Strong organizational, planning and time management skills · Ability to work in a collaborative setting · Flexibility in program development and responding to change · Commitment to user-centered services · Commitment to developing expertise in emerging technologies · Participating and leading in innovative projects · Experience with diverse cultures and working abroad |
