SUMMARY: Reporting to the Associate Director for HR, Finance and Administration, this is highly responsible professional library work which involves Records Management as well as other special projects. Records Manager/Special Projects Librarian is expected to use acquired knowledge and skills in the performance of specialized library duties. Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Applicant must have the following:
- Attainment of B.A. or B.S. from an accredited university/college.
- Attainment of a graduate degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited university.
Preferred:
- Experience in records management.
- Experience with project management.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Good knowledge of professional library principles, practices and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to:
- Handle both routine operations and long-range planning;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other staff;
- Supervise, train and evaluate support staff (if assigned);
- Schedule department staff and work flow for maximum effectiveness (if assigned);
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to groups and individuals;
- Be proficient on the computer with various software.
Preferred:
- Excellent organizational skills and proven attention to detail.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
GENERAL DUTIES
1. Records management: responsible for inventorying library records, working with the Louisiana State Archives Division to establish new records retention schedules and to ensure the appropriate disposition of records eligible for destruction; training and advising Library staff in records management practices; participating in Library decision-making for issues such as microfilming, digital imaging, storage, and disposal; working with Library IT staff to provide input on records management requirements when the Library is designing or enhancing automated systems that will contain public records; responding to public questions regarding Library records and records management practices; reports annually to the Division regarding the Library’s compliance with records management statues and rules. The position requires the ability to work with both hardcopy and digital document collections producing file plans, thesauri, authority lists, indices and other finding aids. The position also requires the ability to work closely with staff from various departments as well as with local and state governmental employees.
2. Special Projects: will be responsible for working on various special projects under the direction of the Project Coordinator or other staff as appropriate.
3. Reports: Assists in the preparation of reports and maintenance of records.
4. Professional Development: Attends meetings of appointed committees, and workshops and conferences; meets monthly with supervisor for work plan meeting.
5. Other duties as required.
SCHEDULE
This is an exempt position with basic schedule of Monday – Friday during regular business hours. Occasional schedule changes may be required as related to assigned projects.

12 days vacation/year (with increases every other year to a maximum of 22 days), 11 paid holidays/year + 1 personal day, 15 days sick leave/year.
