Instruction Coordinator
The Florida International University Libraries seek an enthusiastic, energetic, student-centered, public service-oriented, and innovative individual for the position of Instruction Coordinator. The Instruction Coordinator organizes and directs the Libraries' Instruction and Information Literacy Program and online-learning initiatives, ensures development and delivery of electronic-learning objects and content modules that meet specific faculty/staff and student information-literacy needs, supports student learning across disciplines by working with faculty/staff and librarians to facilitate the use of curriculum-specific information resources, provides access to course-specific online materials in course-delivery systems and other online environments, promotes the use of curriculum-based information resources, assesses student- learning outcomes, and evaluates the effectiveness of the information-literacy program.
Reporting to the Head of Information & Research Services, the Instruction Coordinator also takes an active role in the Libraries' reference services and collection development, and participates fully in scholarship and service as a library faculty member, while working collaboratively with other library faculty to meet the mission and goals of the University Libraries.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction Coordinator
- Coordinates and oversees a library instruction program based on the Libraries' mission and goals.
- Collaborates with library and teaching faculty and other partners to apply learning theories and technologies in the development, design, implementation, and maintenance of general and course-specific library-instruction materials, including online-learning objects and instructional modules.
- Facilitates the integration and use of digital-learning objects that are interactive, pedagogically sound, and engaging to students in course-management systems and other online environments.
- Identifies, implements, and promotes innovative online tools and services for both on-campus and off-campus learners.
- Conducts formal assessment of the Instruction and Information Literacy Program
- Assesses the effectiveness and usability of online-learning objects and other library instructional materials in improving student-learning outcomes.
- Collaborates in the support and training of librarians in the use of new learning technologies.
General Reference & Instruction:
- Develops and implements continuing improvements to online and in-person library instruction sessions.
- Participates in online and in-person library instruction sessions.
- Serves as a liaison to one or more academic departments and performs campus departmental liaison duties.
- Provides reference services, including some evenings and weekends, to diverse user groups in person, by phone, by email, by IM, etc.
Scholarship, Service, & Professional Development:
- Participates in scholarship, faculty governance, and service as a library faculty member.
- Works cooperatively on library-wide initiatives as appropriate to position functions.
- Actively participates in local, state, national, and international meetings and organizations.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Demonstrated knowledge of assessment techniques, trends, and software, in libraries as well as higher education.
- Expertise in formal assessment of learning outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and technology in the design and delivery of face-to-face and online instruction.
- Demonstrated knowledge of information-literacy concepts and applications.
- Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and current instructional technologies and trends in electronic learning.
- Experience with online course-management systems.
- Proven teaching and training expertise.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in reference services.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Moodle and/or Blackboard CMS.
- Demonstrated experience designing and developing digital-learning objects.
- Prior experience with coordinating a library instruction program.
- Experience using programs such as Camtasia and Captivate.
