Overview of the position:
This term position provides reference and information services in the UBC Life Sciences Libraries to faculty, students, and other users. The incumbent assumes responsibility for designated subject areas and liaises with assigned departments and faculties. Liaison responsibilities are mainly with faculty and students, including graduate and postgraduate students, of the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry. The position provides web-based and classroom instruction and assistance in use of information resources as well as plans and implements services that respond to needs of life science users. Furthermore this position participates in the development of library policy, procedures, and services and assumes responsibility for coordination and management of staff, services and projects as required. Evening and weekend work may be required.
This position reports directly to the Head of Woodward and hospital Libraries, the Life Sciences Libraries, and consults with library staff and colleagues as required.

Qualifications and requirements:
· graduate degree from an accredited Library Science program
· academic background in one of the life sciences or equivalent experience
· familiarity with computer technology, electronic services and information in the life sciences
· excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
· ability to work in a team situation
· ability to make decisions based on problem solving skills
· ability to focus on important issues
Preferred
· public service and instructional experience in a life sciences library preferably a health library or equivalent experience
· experience working on systematic literature reviews
Terms of Appointment and Salary:
This new position will be filled as a full-time 9 months from the date of hire with possibility of extension.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and academic/professional qualifications.
