Library Technician II: Interlibrary Loan Borrowing

Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Library Technician II: Interlibrary Loan Borrowing.

Primary Job Duties: Serves as the primary borrowing staff completing tasks related to technical processing of Interlibrary Loan requests. Assists with setting up reciprocal agreements, answering special messages, and handling problems and billing/fines. Assists in organizing and maintaining all files pertaining to the borrowing of materials and compiling statistical reports as requested. Shares responsibilities for communicating with customers and external libraries, maintaining departmental manuals, and implementing operational parameters and procedures in ILL systems & software. Reports administrative issues to the Head of Circulation. Reports to and works in collaboration with the Head of Circulation to set up website and brochures, to communicate services, establish policies/procedures, work-flow patterns and to integrate new technologies.
Performs general duties of the Access Services desk as scheduled including charging and renewing library materials, answering questions pertaining to loan periods, fines, holds, and recalls. Directs patrons to other library services. Assists with copy machines and opening/closing procedures.
Serves as a backup for reserves processing for both tangible and electronic formats. This includes both cataloged and non-cataloged materials. Procedures include verification of copyright clearance, and the entering of reserve titles into the library system using ERES software.
Performs other duties as assigned including the recording of departmental statistics and assisting with patron data corrections.

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED. Three years experience directly related to the primary duties of the position.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: General knowledge and understanding of the nature and function of libraries including library services, standards and procedures, bibliographic records, publishing and publication formats, and library information storage and retrieval systems such as Aleph. Skill in filing, data entry, interpreting and applying library policies & procedures, and in analyzing problems of a moderately complex nature. Able to provide excellent customer service; communicate effectively & efficiently with all levels of staff and customers (verbal & written); work well with others; learn and apply new technologies; and provide guidance and instruction to student assistants.

This is a full-time non-exempt State position with a full benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Minimum starting salary is $13.84 per hour.
