SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm; occasional evening and weekend hours
REPORTS TO: Dean of University Libraries

POSITION SUMMARY
The Special Assistant to the Dean conducts background research and prepares written material, speeches, reports, research papers, presentation material and other written documents for meetings addressing a wide range of administrative and student issues affecting the Dean's office. Additionally, the Special Assistant leads special assignments or projects directed by the Dean. A strong candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational and critical thinking skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment where ambiguity and deadline pressures are common and collaborating as a team is expected. The successful candidate will have outstanding written and oral communication skills and behave in a manner that fosters a positive workplace climate and advances the organizational mission. This position reports to the Dean of Libraries and is part of the Administration Team.

cost-effective methods of acquiring, curating, managing, and connecting customers to information services and resources and providing education in their use.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Prepares complex correspondence, speeches, reports, research papers, presentation materials, award nominations, and other written documents as requested by the Dean.
· Performs research and compiles, analyzes and disseminates data needed to write reports as required for the Dean, including the Libraries' annual and student fee reports.
· Coordinates planning of special events and presentations as requested by the Dean.
· Prepares briefing books and informational literature on the University Libraries targeted for specific audiences and purposes.
· Assumes leadership role on special assignments, including organization and coordination of projects as requested by the Dean.
· Monitors local and national publications for information and library trends.
· Assists the Dean in developing community and campus partners for library projects.
· Fulfills other special projects as requested by the Dean.

ADDITIONAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Master's degree in Library Science.
- Excellent skills in writing and editing, including the ability to write succinctly, clearly and persuasively.
- Excellent communication skills.

· Exceptional organizational and critical thinking skills.
· Strong ability to juggle various tasks with proven ability to strategize, prioritize and multitask to meet goals and deadlines under pressure.
· Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters.

· Experience in drafting and designing materials for different audiences and purposes.
· Experience in data collection, analysis, dissemination and presentation.
· Excellent proficiency in attention to detail and fact checking to ensure accuracy of documentation.
· Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, administrative personnel, faculty, staff and members of the community.
· Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment.
· Ability to write scholarly journal articles and create scholarly presentations.
· Demonstrated understanding of issues in academic librarianship, including collections, space, budgeting, and scholarly communications.
SALARY INFORMATION: $53,364 annually.
