Job Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Clinical Planning Consultant for Library Services, the Clinical Planning Consultant - Library (Systems) provides direct technical support for librarians involved in information services; attending library team meetings, performing routine checks of all library systems functionality, keeping librarians up to date with current awareness of related technology, and evaluating new information technologies and resources for addition to the library collections. Above all, he/she ensures that quality library technical services are provided in an efficient, safe and culturally competent manner, consistent with the unit's standards. The Clinical Planning Consultant - Library (Systems) ensures that recruiting, commissioning, on-boarding, orientation and service activation responsibilities are carried out in accordance with project plans and timelines which may extend into hospital operations.
Key Accountabilities:
- Develop and implement library web based user services through primary liaison with clinical librarians to ensure the information needs of appropriate Sidra working groups, SMEs, educators and clinicians are addressed.
- Provide input within appropriate task forces and working groups on the development of staff and patient portals to include selected library resources and play a key role in clinical decision support integration within the CIS via the implementation team.
- Validate both the clinical library and patient resource center library systems requirements by working with relevant IM consultants (e.g. enterprise content management, etc.) and the PSV to ensure a seamless integration of library systems with other related Sidra systems (e.g. ERP, RFID, etc.).
- Proactively respond to all requests for technical support related to library systems; in addition to creating and managing complex databases and web authoring tools to activate all library systems.
- Liaise with appropriate Sidra clinical project staff to design and implement web based user services for the Patient Resource Center.
- Coordinate with Sidra IT staff for backing up all library data, software, and library websites (i.e. the Clinical Library and Patient Resource Center) of online resources.
- Select library resources appropriate for the support of the organization's vision, mission and guiding principles.
- Provide orientation to library staff during on-boarding on the effective use of all library systems.
- Accountable for the efficiency and quality of library systems and technical services provided and for professional practice in accordance with Sidra policies and procedures.
- Work under the general guidance of the Senior Clinical Planning Consultant - Library Services;
- Report unit activities, progress and potential problems to the Senior Clinical Planning Consultant - Library Services.
- In view of the developing and changing needs and opportunities within Sidra during this start-up phase, this position may perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
ESSENTIAL
- Master's degree in library and/or information studies from an ALA accredited institution.
- 5 years of professional library experience, including at least 2 years within a medical/life sciences library.
- Demonstrated familiarity (knowledge and skills) with current technology related to library technical services.
- Expert proficiency in working with a variety of library systems.
- Demonstrated creativity and innovation in library website development
- Demonstrated ability in developing and delivering library systems training to colleagues; strong group presentation skills.
- Ability to design, program, administer and maintain web-based library services and the systems underlying them.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in written and spoken English.
- Experience in problem solving, organizing data and generating thorough, accurate and timely reports.
- Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the use of all resources.
- Seeks opportunities to enable lifelong learning, through participating in educational activities appropriate to the area of specialization; maintaining required level of competence and professional portfolio.
DESIRABLE
- International work experience
- Understanding of and enthusiasm for W3C and MARC standards.
- Experience implementing an integrated library system.
- Experience with mobile applications, proxy servers, URL link resolvers and related technology.
- Interest in contributing to the profession via research, publication, presentation and service (within associations).
- Effective planning and organizing with the ability to exercise discretion, attention to detail and follow-through.
- Initiative and flexibility to adapt and work in a rapidly changing environment.
