Position Description: The Catalog and Metadata Librarian is responsible for the provision and coordination of all bibliographic access to library collections. This includes original and complex copy cataloging of monographs, continuing resources, non-print media items, maps and special collections. In addition, the Catalog and Metadata Librarian assists with the organization of digital collections and the planning, implementation and monitoring of digital repository projects using existing and evolving metadata standards and schemas.
Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Library Director, the Catalog and Metadata Librarian is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities: provides management and quality control of all aspects of the Cataloging Department. Supervises, trains, mentors and evaluates all cataloging staff. Provides cataloging/classification of materials in various formats. Collaborates on the development of digital projects, institutional digital repositories, and other metadata initiatives. Participates in other areas of library services.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
o Master’s degree from an ALA accredited institution
o Experience with DDC, AACR2r, RDA, LC rule interpretations and subject heading practice, MARC21, OCLC, SirsiDynix, or other local integrated library system (ILS).
o Professional knowledge of non-MARC metadata formats and standards, such as Dublin Core, VRA Core or other evolving non-MARC metadata standards,
o Strong service commitment to faculty, students and colleagues.
o Ability to work collaboratively and creatively in a rapidly changing environment.
o Demonstrated ability to supervise, train and motivate staff.
