[LIBJOBS] United States - Rochester, Michigan - Dean of the Library, Oakland University

Oakland University seeks an energetic leader who enjoys innovation and collaboration to serve as Dean of the Library at a vibrant, growing institution. The ideal candidate will continue the library's strong momentum in partnering with other campus constituents to further its mission as a teaching library with an outstanding student-centered information literacy program. Recent enhancements to the library—including the creation of an Information Commons; the incorporation of the university's eLearning and Instructional Support unit into the library's physical space; and the development of a new state-of-the-art digital medical library—underscore this exciting opportunity to shape the library into a campus leader in e-learning and teaching.

The Dean provides vision and leadership in all aspects of library administration and is responsible for developing strong collaborative relationships within the university and surrounding communities, fostering staff and professional growth and development, and integrating the library into the intellectual life of the university. Oakland University librarians have faculty status, and the successful candidate will have a record of academic and professional achievement that warrants tenure at a senior academic rank. This position reports to the Provost and Senior Vice-President for Academic Affairs and serves on the Dean's Council and the President's Strategic Planning Group.

•    Foster a library-wide collegial and highly collaborative environment, which includes the new School of Medicine Library.

•    Minimum of 5 years of successful and progressively responsible administrative experience in academic libraries, including budget management.
•    Clear vision of the academic library as a dynamic, technologically innovative center of teaching and e-learning, and a demonstrated ability to prioritize among competing interests.
•    Record of scholarship, research, professional participation and/or equivalent activities warranting tenure at the rank of associate professor or professor.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications:

•    Second master's degree or earned doctorate.
•    Evidence of continued scholarly growth.
•    Experience developing e-learning technology resources and online degree programs.
•    Experience developing and implementing a strategic plan.
•    Experience with a collective bargaining environment and faculty status for librarians.
•    Evidence of a strong commitment to equity, diversity and professional development of library personnel.
•    Record of developing or cultivating external fundraising sources for resource enrichment in a university setting.
