The Qatar Foundation is establishing a state-of-the-art Central Library to serve the diverse information needs of the residents of the State of Qatar. The Central Library, to be located in Education City, will take a leadership role in meeting Qatar Foundation’s goals to become Qatar's premier information resource for the academic, research and public community. It will serve the general public of Qatar, universities, schools, research institutes and Education City partners. The Central Library will offer a suite of educational and research opportunities, services and programs supported by comprehensive collections of print and digital materials. The library building, designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, is scheduled for ground breaking in the first quarter of 2011 with an anticipated opening in the summer 2013.
The Central Library seeks dynamic, innovative, service-oriented and culturally sensitive applicants for the position of Head, Gulf Collection and Archives.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The position will be responsible for developing a premiere collection of materials and a suite of services that connect scholars, students and the general public with information about the contemporary experience of GCC members (post 1954). This collection will provide research materials and opportunities for the general public to learn about the GCC, as well as include the institutional repository of the Qatar Foundation. The position will also participate with the Central Library team in the development of policies, procedures and services related to public services and collections in all areas of the library.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop and implement policies and procedures associated with the Gulf Collection and QF Archives including information, reference, research, instruction, collections, literacy and programming activities ensuring integration with the Central Library and QF polices.
· Train, and mentor departmental staff to provide a dynamic and technology-oriented environment conducive to creativity, scholarship and learning.
· Design, develop and implement programs and services to support information, reference, research and instruction within the subject area.

REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Masters degree in Library or Information Science accredited by the American Library Association or foreign equivalent.
A Masters or Phd in Middle Eastern Studies would be an asset.
· Minimum 7 years experience, 3 of which must have been in supervisory role in special collections or archives
· Record of team leadership with strong supervisory skills
