[LIBJOBS] Qatar - Doha - Head, Library Systems

The Qatar Foundation is establishing a state-of-the-art Central Library to serve the diverse information needs of the residents of the State of Qatar. The Central Library, to be located in Education City, will take a leadership role in meeting Qatar Foundation’s goals to become Qatar's premier information resource for the academic, research and public community. It will serve the general public of Qatar, universities, schools, research institutes and Education City partners. The Central Library will offer a suite of educational and research opportunities, services and programs supported by comprehensive collections of print and digital materials. The library building, designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, is scheduled for ground breaking in the first quarter of 2011 with an anticipated opening in the summer 2013.

 

The Central Library seeks dynamic, innovative, service-oriented and culturally sensitive applicants for the position of Head, Library Systems.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Head of Library Systems works with the Associate Director for Library IT to develop strategic planning, management and development of Library Services. The Head of Library Systems provides leadership to the Central Library in providing key foundational support for systems supporting scholarly information and related services. This position is responsible for supporting all systems and services associated with library management and scholarly communications including the Integrated Library Management System (ILMS), online catalog, interlibrary loan system, institutional repository, visual resources software and other vendor and open source applications related to teaching, learning and research at the university. This position also acts as a business analyst to document the Library's technology needs for presentation to the Library and IT leadership.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Design, implement and manage a broad range of information technology-based systems and services for the Central Library.

·         Plan, develop and implement improvements or expansions of the Library Management Systems and supervise related applications in order to assure full systems integration and support to library users and staff.

·         Prepare detailed, written profiling and coding specifications to ensure the data provided by external vendors is added in a manner consistent with the database.

·         Participate in full scale RFID implementation projects ensuring the seamless integration of all RFID systems in the Library

·         Coordinate the installation, configuration, upgrade, maintenance, development, delivery and support of systems to support scholarly and library-wide information services and resources at the Central Library.

REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Masters degree in Library or Information Science accredited by the American Library Association or foreign equivalent.

·         Minimum five years of experience managing and/or supporting library information systems and technology.

·         Experience with installing, upgrading, configuring and maintaining server-based applications in UNIX environment.
