JOB TITLE: Collection Management and Metadata Librarian (faculty)

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Collection Management and Metadata Librarian is responsible for the acquisition, organization, and assessment of the library’s online, print, and other collections. As a faculty member in the Department of Information Science, perform all professional librarian duties including, but not limited to: reference desk, collection development, teaching, scholarly activities, and service.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Coordinate operations of the acquisitions, cataloging and metadata, and serials areas.
· Participate in the selection of online resources and in associated contract negotiations.
· Supervise, train, evaluate and assign tasks to two FTE technical services personnel.
· Establish and assess services, policies, and practices for acquisitions, cataloging and metadata, and serials.
· Administer the serials, books, cataloging and metadata, and bindery budgets.
· Serve as the administrator for technical services functions of the library’s ILMS (integrated library management system).
· Maintains and updates library’s knowledge base for journals and other resources.
· Develops and implements cataloging and metadata policies and procedures and oversees the processing of monographs, serials, e-resources, and special collections materials.
· Coordinate the collection development activities of the other Information Science faculty.
· Lead the technical services area to identify areas for update and improvement of library services.
· Teach information literacy classes, hold scheduled reference consultations, and serve at the reference desk.
· Promote the University of the Sciences information literacy initiative as a departmental liaison.
· Serve on various committees and taskforces as a non-tenure track voting member of the Faculty.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Three to five years of supervisory experience in a service environment.
· Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program.
· Experience in online cataloging and metadata systems and library technical services, including managing relationships with vendors.
· Experience with ILMS, RDA, OCLC, LCSH, and LC classification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Limited physical effort required.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
