Visiting Assistant Librarian
The Library at St. Mary's College of Maryland seeks an enthusiastic, creative and collaborative librarian for a temporary, 10-month visiting assistant librarian appointment beginning August 1, 2014. The librarian will partner with faculty to incorporate information literacy concepts into the First Year Seminar, a course designed to introduce students to core liberal arts skills of written and oral expression, critical thinking and information literacy. While the core responsibilities of this position will center on delivering outcomes-based, learner-centered information literacy instruction within the First Year Seminar, the visiting assistant librarian will also provide research assistance to students and participate in the library's public services projects as needed. This is a contingent position with no benefits provided; salary range is $40,000 - $42,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and be able to effectively collaborate with colleagues. The librarians at St. Mary's are committed to engaging students with active, learner-centered instruction, and seek a candidate with a similar style of teaching. This full-time position will work weekdays, with the possibility of occasional evening instruction.
Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited master's degree completed by August 2014; and teaching experience, with a preference for experience in undergraduate information literacy instruction.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of outcomes-based information literacy instruction; knowledge of information literacy assessment practices; experience in providing research assistance to undergraduate students; familiarity with current trends in information literacy instruction; demonstrated passion for teaching undergraduates; demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects.
