Montana State University Library in Bozeman, MT seeks a 12-month, tenure track Head of Learning and Research Services. This unique opportunity is a result of merging its Reference and Access Services Teams into a broad new public services unit called Learning and Research Services (LRS). The LRS department head will be responsible for leading the Library’s public service initiatives, including instruction, research assistance, public programming, reserves, and circulation/stacks maintenance, and continuing the library’s exploration and implementation of new approaches to public services. Additionally, the LRS department head will be responsible for the Library Commons, which is a technology-rich teaching and learning environment. This position will lead a group of approximately eight tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty librarians, 10 classified staff, and 17 part-time student employees. While the formation of LRS has already begun, the department’s structure will be fairly fluid for the near future as members devise effective methods of working together. The Head will lead in shaping the details of LRS’ emerging structure. As a member of the Library faculty, the LRS Head is expected to meet the University’s research and service requirements for promotion and tenure.
