The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invite applicants for the position of Reference and Instruction Librarian at the Boscov-Lakin Information Commons and Thun Library, Penn State Berks.  The campus library seeks a proactive, creative, and inventive librarian to provide general and specialized reference services. Duties of this tenure track position include working in a liaison role with baccalaureate degree programs at Berks; providing reference and bibliographic instruction (both in person and online); developing research guides and instructional materials; promoting library collections and services to faculty and students; and collection development. In addition to these duties, tenure track library faculty are expected to publish in scholarly journals, present at conferences, and demonstrate service to the University and the profession. Some evening and/or weekend work is required.
 
Requirements: Requires a MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent) and at least two years of post-MLIS academic library experience; demonstrated knowledge of academic and library instructional technologies; strong knowledge of print and electronic information resources; demonstrated potential to achieve the requirements for tenure and promotion in the areas of librarianship, research, and service; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Penn State Berks is located in suburban Reading, PA. Student enrollment at the campus is a mix of approximately 2800 full and part-time students, with just over 800 of those students residing in on-campus residence halls. The campus offers small classes and excellent support systems that enable students to reach their fullest potential. The small campus environment allows for a comprehensive learning experience with the high standards of a major research university. Penn State Berks offers 17 baccalaureate degree programs, 6 associate degree programs, 22 academic minors, and the first two years of course work for more than 160 Penn State majors that can be completed at other Penn State campuses.
 
Compensation and Rank: Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits include liberal vacation, excellent insurance and health care coverage, state or TIAA/CREF retirement options, and educational privileges.  In addition, faculty in the University Libraries are afforded funds for professional development travel annually.  Faculty may be asked to travel as official representatives of the Libraries to certain events and those trips are reimbursed at full cost within limits established by the University.
