[LIBJOBS] USA - Work Remotely -Migration Specialist

ByWater Solutions is hiring a Migration Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for the migration of data from a legacy ILS system to Koha. The job requires strong data and system analysis, troubleshooting and testing skills. Additionally, this role requires a good background in written and verbal communication and understanding of project management principles.

Description

- Manage start to end migration process interfacing with the customer, and internal employees to plan, monitor progress, resolve issues and keep customers informed.
- Analyze legacy ILS data and select methods to load data into other database structures.
- Perform data migration of library data from legacy system to Koha through the use of Perl scripts and SQL.
- Use the tools available to track progress on projects such as RT(Request Tracker), and docuwiki.
- Communicate as appropriate with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide a professional customer service experience for external customers.
- Act as point of contact for customer communication during migration process.
- Assist the customer through migration process to ensure accuracy of data.
- Set customer expectations and actions required when migrating from legacy ILS.
- Communicate estimated migration dates.
- Troubleshoot and escalate issues to the relevant support teams.
- Ensure timely completion of orders.
- Provides positive closure on all migrations.
- Support existing partners by troubleshooting a variety of technical and non technical customer issues.

Qualifications

Education

- Masters degree in Library Science or Information Science or Bachelor's degree in information technology and related work experience. Educational background should include knowledge of computers, networking and project planning tools.

- Working knowledge of Linux, Perl, SQL, Integrated Library Software (ILS).

- Ability to use creative techniques to analyze and solve data
issues.

Experience

- 1+ year experience in a position that involved direct contact with end users.
- Familiarity and appreciation of open source tools and methodologies.

- Full understanding of data migration processes and lifecycle methodologies desirable.

- Solid understanding of relevant technologies and associated capabilities.

- Strong customer-facing and presentation skills.
