Position Title: Information Services Librarian- Gulf
Job Purpose: As the bilingual (Arabic and English) specialist for the history and culture of countries within the GCC, the librarian will deliver research, reference, instructional services and public programs, as well as develop and manage collections. The position will participate in implementing the Qatar Reference Service by providing reference and reader’s advisory services. The position will be responsible for collection management for GCC history and culture. As well, the position will provide information literacy and learning opportunities through the development of innovative content and promotional activities for researchers, the education community (advanced education and K-12) and the general public. Regularly scheduled evening and weekend work will be required.
Key Result Areas:
Ø Participates in the activities of the assigned Special Collections & Archives team lead by the Senior Middle Eastern Studies Librarian to effectively provide reference and reader’s advisory, collection management, literacy and learning opportunities for the history and culture of countries within the GCC.
Ø Provide reference and reader’s advisory services in the Qatar Reference Service through regular shifts in the Special Collections Reading Room, in the Learning Commons, by e-Reference and through individual office consultations.
Ø Provide information literacy and learning opportunities to researchers, educators and the general public.
Ø Acts as the principal bibliographer for the GCC. Develops the library collection (both the Special and Main Collections) in assigned subject areas by searching for, identifying, evaluating and selecting relevant resources in all formats through the application of standard library collection development methodologies in conjunction with the Collection Development policy and library procedures.
Ø Develop print and virtual resources to support teaching and learning activities and for self-directed learning opportunities.
Ø Maintain regular interaction with faculty, researchers, students and the general public to determine user needs.
Ø Develop displays in order to highlight and interpret the library’s collections and services.
Ø Continuously explore new applications of pedagogy and technology in order to design and deliver active learning, critical thinking and learner collaboration.
Ø Serve on designated committees throughout the library.
Ø Participate in outreach programs to support research, education and community needs.
Ø Contributes to the profession by publishing, presenting or participating in professional organizations.
Ø Keep abreast of developments, trends and issues in all areas of responsibilities.
Ø Familiarize, understand and implement QF health, safety, and environment policy, procedures, legal regulations and objectives applicable to areas of responsibility. Ensures coordination with HSE department in implementing, monitoring and reviewing of HSE performance to ensure work under his/her control is performed in a safe, healthy and environmentally sound manner.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Ø Masters degree in Library or Information Science accredited by the American Library Association or foreign equivalent is required.
Ø Preference will be given to a native Arabic speaker who is able to communicate, write and present fluently in both Arabic and English (IELTS overall band 6.5 or equivalent).
Ø Good interpersonal and people skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
