[LIBJOBS] USA - Stuart, FL - Adult Services and Program Manager

SUMMARY: Under general direction of the Library Director and/or Director’s designee, the person in this position is responsible for the development, coordination, support and review of adult services and adult public programming for the Library.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Note: The listed duties are illustrative only and are not intended to describe each and every function, which may be performed in the job class. - Plans and directs adult services goals and activities for the Library.
- Plans and coordinates the adult programs and events for the Library.
- Develops tools and classes that help patrons learn how to use the technology that connects them to the Library and its resources.
- Identifies training needs for adult and reference services and arranges for staff and volunteer trainings that address those needs.
- Collaborates with the Community Libraries Manager and the Youth Services Coordinator to design and implement public services that align with library priorities.
- Communicate adult services goals to all library staff and mobilize and coach the appropriate staff to carry out those goals.
- Works closely and collaboratively with the Director to ensure that adult services goals and activities align with the Library¿s vision, mission, and strategic plan.
- Serves on the Library Leadership Team and participates in the development of system-wide operating policies and procedures.
- Supervises two reference librarians and two library assistants.
- Assists in the selection of public services staff that work with adults.
- Participates in the budget process and monitors budget in area of specialization.
- Represents adult services and adult programming on Library committees.
- Assess the service needs of the community and recommend strategies and programs to meet those needs.
- Assists in promoting community awareness of library services and programs by communicating with community members, community organizations, and local businesses.
- Reviews and prepares performance evaluations, recommends disciplinary action; handles employee complaints and grievances.
- Performs general reference work.

1. Ability to actively seek opportunities to connect Martin County residents with the library resources they want and need.
2. Knowledge of profession, library principles, methods, procedures and techniques.
3. Knowledge of current literature, trends and developments in the field of library science appropriate to the areas of assignment and ability to share this knowledge with coworkers.
4. Knowledge of community needs and interest in relation to library services in areas of specialization.
5. Knowledge of principles organization, supervision, and administration; ability to analyze professional and administrative problems and make recommendations as to their solution; ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment; ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Martin County Library System Customer Service Performance Standards; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, and other County employees.
6. Knowledge of library reference materials and research techniques; ability to work independently in a wide variety of situations; able to utilize computer technology and software applications, ability to welcome new ideas, new technologies, and new work practices; able to work a schedule that includes evenings and weekends.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

1. Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS) from and ALA accredited program. Four years of public library experience of which two years are supervisory. Ability to use and embrace the Internet and other new and emerging technologies required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid Florida Drivers License
