Librarian II/III/ Director, Liaison and Research Services: The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries invites applications for a Librarian II/III/Director, Liaison and Research Services. This newly created position provides strategic direction and vision for liaison, research and instruction services. This reflects the Libraries' commitment to advance the research and instructional goals of the campus through relationship building, curriculum integration, and personalized services.
With a focus on public services and outreach, the director develops and leads a robust library liaison program that emphasizes:
•partnerships with campus faculty, student groups, centers and departments
•the libraries' role in information literacy to meet the university's educational objectives
•the use of assessment data to establish user-centered services
•an understanding of scholarly communications issues, the university curriculum, and the teaching, outreach and research needs of students and faculty
The Research Services department provides the primary reference and instruction activities for freshman composition, social sciences, humanities and life sciences disciplines, and is the departmental home of the core group of subject liaisons. In addition, the director coordinates the participation of subject liaisons whose primary responsibilities are outside of Research Services.
Responsibilities:
Liaisons and Outreach:
•mentors and supervises the liaison activities of approximately a dozen librarians
•develops guiding principles, strategies and tools for the liaison program
•assists liaisons in outreach efforts
•promotes library collections and services to diverse populations
•implements relationship-building activities
•works with liaisons to set individual and program goals
•promotes and advocates for the role of the library in educational and research goals
•assesses, evaluates and re-tools to maintain an actively engaged library faculty and thriving liaison and outreach program
Reference and Instruction Services:
•follows trends and actively engages staff in the development of new services to meet user needs, advance the research enterprise, and foster a climate of student success
•guides program planning and assessment for both traditional and online reference and instructional services
•formulates and implements departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
•leads outreach programs to the campus and community
•directly supervises Research Services librarians, LOAs and support staff
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Public Services, this is a key leadership position and member of the Library Management Team. The Libraries places great emphasis on essential skills for this position which include leadership, communication, consensus building, the ability to create an environment of collegiality and collaboration, a strong commitment to customer service, and a commitment to create and maintain an inclusive environment.
As a tenure‐track library faculty member, the incumbent must meet library and university requirements for promotion and tenure.
Required Qualifications:
ALA accredited MLS or certified international equivalent
Five years of post-MLS experience in reference, instruction or liaison work in an academic library, including at least one year of management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
•Supervision of professional staff
•Ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural setting
•Effective oral and written communication skills
•A record of collaboration and successful partnerships
•Ability to explore and incorporate technologies into learning and research support
•Ability to plan, design and implement new services and projects
Salary: Salary minimum $80,000. This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position. Appointment may be at the level of Assistant Professor or above depending on experience, record of scholarship, service and achievement. Benefits: Competitive benefits package including 24 vacation days per year and tuition benefits for self and family. No state income tax.
