GIS Librarian/Instructional Assistant Professor – Texas A&M University at Galveston [PAR#3938]
The Jack K. Williams Library and the Marine Sciences Department at Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG) invites applicants for the position of GIS Librarian, a non-tenure track faculty position at the Instructional Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will have earned a Master of Library & Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
The Librarian will receive a joint appointment in the Library and the Marine Sciences Department. The Librarian will teach 2 GIS courses in the Marine Sciences Department and provide support for GIS in that department. Additionally, the Librarian will provide collection, research and discovery support for students, faculty and staff through the Library.
The individual selected will demonstrate a solid understanding of GIS theory, applications, software and emerging technologies. The Librarian will acquire and provide support in the discovery, use and management of locally created and externally available GIS data, collections and tools in collaboration with data creators and researchers. The Librarian will also work with others to develop scalable, sustainable and domain-appropriate GIS services in support of research, support data visualization activities by promoting techniques associated with specialized, evolving data visualization tools for spatial applications and provide support for GIS services through reference, research consultations, online help guides, websites and other outreach efforts.
The appointment is at TAMUG, a branch campus of TAMU College Station, with comprehensive emphasis on education and research related to the ocean. With approximately 2,300 students, the campus offers a wide spectrum of ocean-based programs to students, including Marine Biology, Marine Science, Maritime Administration, Maritime Studies, Maritime Systems Engineering, the Texas Maritime Academy, and a small fleet of vessels devoted to supporting ocean-related programs.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
