DUTIES:
The Southworth Library Learning Commons at SUNY Canton, the Schubert-Award-winning, #1 student-ranked SUNY Library, seeks an experienced, innovative and visionary leader to be its next Director of Library Services. This is a full-time, twelve-month, faculty position within the Academic Support Services and Instructional Technologies Division, reporting to the Division Dean.
About SUNY Canton:
SUNY Canton is a college of technology within the SUNY system, with an enrollment of approximately 3,500 students. In addition to offering a variety of courses and degrees in the traditional classroom setting, SUNY Canton has an extensive online learning program which includes ten fully online degrees and over 400 online course offerings. Housing library, tutoring and information services departments, the Southworth Library Learning Commons at SUNY Canton is a dynamic, student-centered academic space designed to promote collaboration, innovation and learning.
The Position:
The Director of Library Services administers and provides assessment for all Library resources and services in support of the College’s academic programs, student learning and instructional effectiveness; supervises and evaluates library personnel; and provides vision and direction for library services in collaboration with faculty, administration and staff in alignment with institutional mission and goals. The successful candidate will be a non-traditional library leader whose primary focus is on the development of innovation in library service in support of student engagement, retention and success.
Responsibilities:
The Director is responsible for planning, organizing and managing the delivery of library services which are responsive to the needs of a growing and dynamic student population. The Director represents the library on campus groups, and advocates for and promotes the library and its services as a critical component of institutional academic excellence. Fostering an atmosphere of creativity and innovation, the Director of Library Services coordinates and promotes opportunities for scholarly engagement, academic discovery and innovation, and campus and community connectivity. Working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, the Director builds connections both on campus and SUNY-wide. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership qualities and knowledge of the changing nature of academic libraries, especially with emerging library technologies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Master’s degree in library science/information science from an ALA-accredited school
· 3-5 years of progressive responsibility in an academic library setting as an academic librarian/library leader
· Demonstrated commitment to innovation in library service and a students-first philosophy
· Ability to think outside the academic-library box
