The Board of Trustees of the David A. Howe Public Library is accepting applications for the position of Library Director. The library is seeking an energetic candidate with a vision for 21st century library services and a passion for providing outreach to local communities through a positive team-based education and cultural institution.
The Library Director will be responsible for the daily operations of a busy 41,000 square foot facility with 100,000 plus materials and an annual operating budget of $675,000. The library is chartered as a municipal library, and receives sustainable funding through Wellsville School District residents. The library is a member of the Southern Tier Library System, which serves 48 member libraries throughout New York’s Southern Tier and Finger Lakes.

Applicants should have the knowledge, skills and abilities to manage all aspects of the library, including collection development, personnel oversight, budget planning, grant writing, policy creation and facilities management.
The successful candidate will:
Possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Library Services, Communications, Political Science, or Business; however, a Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Have a minimum of (3) three years Library experience and two (2) years supervisory experience.
Have extensive technology experience and/or knowledge of library-driven technology services.
Have a strong vision of how library services should be delivered in a 21st century environment.
Possess the ability to motivate, establish and maintain effective working relationships in the library & community.
Salary range is $45,000 - $65,000 for this 35-40 hour per week position and is commensurate with experience. NYS Retirement and other benefits are included.
The David A. Howe Public Library is the largest public library in Allegany County, and serves the beautiful Wellsville community area. It resides in the picturesque Appalachian Plateau, and is a scenic one hour drive from the Finger Lakes, Allegheny National Forest, Canada, Rochester, Buffalo and Corning/Elmira.
