Full-Time Librarian/Instructional Specialist, Tutoring Center
Salary range: $64,632.70 - $99,244.20/annual
Are you interested in pursuing something different? Do you have an interest and experience with basic skills students? Do you have a second Master’s degree in a basic skills area, such as Math, English, or Reading? We are looking for a librarian, but this is not a traditional librarian position. The Librarian, Tutoring Center will lead the supplemental instruction operations in the Student Success Center.
Cerritos College serves a diverse population of over 22,000 students studying in more than 60 disciplines. This position resides in the Academic Success Division, which includes the Library and the Student Success Center. This position will focus on the Student Success Center (SSC), which provides a variety of supplemental instruction services to assist the student body, including one-on-one tutoring in writing, math, ESL, reading, and several other disciplines, workshops, directed learning activities, and group tutoring.
Required Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in library science, or library and information science, OR the equivalent.
· Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic background of the student, community, and employee population.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Additional Master’s degree in Math, English, or Reading.
· Experience tutoring or providing learning assistance in a college learning lab or a learning resource center or its equivalent.
· Knowledge of the unique needs of underprepared students, adult learners, developmental education, or a related area.
· Supervisory experience in an educational setting, including the supervision and training of instructional aides, tutors, or other instructional staff
· Demonstrated skill in using innovative teaching methods, instructional design, and assessment techniques.
Responsibilities:
· Facilitating and delivering workshops, designing instructional support materials and activities
· Scheduling and overseeing part-time instructional specialists and the reading, writing, grammar, study skills, and critical thinking workshops that they teach
· Assisting with recruitment and hiring of tutors and adjunct instructional specialists
· Training new tutors
· Providing outreach to faculty and students for SSC services and updates
· Organizing the instructional functions of the SSC to meet the needs of the various appropriate instructional programs and related support services
The SSC is a fast-paced and growing environment that needs a candidate who is adaptive, quick thinking, and who can successfully work with a variety of personalities and solve unique challenges.
