TITLE: Library Special Projects Assistant REPORTS TO: Librarian
CLASSIFICATION: Temporary; Exempt; Full-time
FUNDING: Position is funded through the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) Cataloging Hidden Special Collections and Archives grant program. The position will last from date of hire (anticipate March 2014) through September 30, 2016.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Special Projects Library Assistant is dedicated to achieving the goals of the CLIR funded "Cataloging the Vertical Files of the Anton Brees Carillon Library" project which includes, but are not limited to, creating finding aids for "hidden" materials, creating original cataloging records for a variety of resources, and working with students and volunteers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor degree required; some Master's level coursework in Library Science, Archives, or other related field preferred
· Minimum of one year experience in a library or archive setting, preferably technical services
· Previous experience of coordinating/overseeing projects preferred
KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Familiarization with current library and archival standards in cataloging and metadata creation including, but not limited to, EAD, MARC, Dublin Core, AACR2rev, and XML.
· A basic knowledge of music
· Proficiency with the MS Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
· Experience with library cataloging and digital resource management software (e.g. Mandarin Oasis, OCLC Connexion Client, CONTENTdm)
· Must be detail oriented
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· Strong administrative and supervisory skills
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
· Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
· Strong organizational skills
· Ability to manage multiple tasks, with excellent organizational and follow-up skills
· Professional appearance and proven presentation skills
· Must have the ability to climb stairs
