Limited Term Appointment
Concordia University Libraries seeks an energetic and resourceful librarian to deliver library services to students and faculty, especially in support of programs in the sciences.
This is a full-time 12-month appointment, with possibility of renewal.

The sciences form the heart of the Loyola campus (Montreal West) where programs in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, exercise science, genomics, physics, and more are pursued in state-of-the-art facilities including the Richard J. Renaud Science Complex, the PERFORM Centre and the Research Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics.
Concordia University Libraries serves the lively university community from two campus libraries, the Georges Vanier Library at the Loyola campus and the R. Howard Webster Library at the downtown campus. Its services are founded upon the university’s strategic framework and academic plan. The successful candidate will work with the team of librarians under the guidance of the Director, Vanier Library to provide in-person and virtual assistance and instruction to students and faculty in all subjects, as well as to develop and provide support for services relating to science departments and research centers.
Individuals holding limited-term appointments may receive subsequent reappointments, given continued funding and need, as well as satisfactory job performance. Together, the initial and subsequent limited-term appointments may not exceed 36 months or a span of three consecutive years.
Librarians are members of the Concordia University Faculty Association (CUFA).
Qualifications
- A graduate degree from a library school accredited by the American Library Association, or approved equivalent education and training acceptable for membership in the Corporation of Professional Librarians of Québec.
- An undergraduate degree in the sciences is an asset.
- Recent professional experience in an academic library, or other relevant experience.
- Familiarity with trends, practices and technologies for academic library services.
- Familiarity with reference resources, services and electronic information systems in subject areas supported by the libraries, but particularly in the sciences.
- Ability to organize and conduct instructional activities for individuals and groups.
- Excellent communication skills. Ability to prepare and present written and oral reports.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks as well as projects.
- Willingness to share expertise, work in teams and negotiate solutions with diverse groups.
- Aptitude for and interest in service oriented work and ability to work with the public in a tactful manner in a multicultural environment.
- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, flexibility, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to apply creative ideas in the pursuit of institutional goals.
- Oral and written fluency in English is essential. Oral fluency in French and basic written French are assets.
Salary and Benefits
Salaries for limited term appointments start at $48,823 per annum. All appointments include a competitive and comprehensive benefit package.
