Collections Assessment & Stacks Management Librarian
The Ohio University Libraries seeks applications and nominations for an energetic, inquisitive and collaborative professional to develop, implement, and manage a proactive and responsive collections assessment program. The successful candidate will bring flexibility and creative thinking into their responsibilities to ensure the collections support the Libraries as a “dynamic gateway for the discovery, creation and exchange of knowledge, which enables students, faculty and staff to realize their promise and to achieve excellence.”
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Collections & Digital Initiatives, the Collections Assessment & Stacks Management Librarian will work with the AD to develop a collection management program that results in an ongoing evaluation process of the Libraries’ resources. This is an exciting time at Ohio University Libraries as we are beginning the first phase of a implementing a multi-year master plan requiring strategic and user focused collection management. The successful candidate will organize and conduct collection management projects and will supervise staff responsible for maintaining the physical collections of Alden to ensure optimal accessibility of the collections. This person will also temporarily supervise circulation staff as we transition the management of this public service point.
Specifically, the Collections Assessment & Stacks Management Librarian:
- Uses multiple collection management tools to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the collections and assists with implementing plans to improve collection relevancy and accessibility.
- Identifies data needed for analysis and the best methods for obtaining that data; Publishes that data in a manner which is both accessible and comprehensible.
- Assists subject librarians with the review of collection development strategies as well as with changes in approval plans, use assessment, and deselection processes.
- Supervises staff who maintain the physical collections of Alden; Identifies shifting projects, recommends deselection projects; Plans collection moves and leads those efforts to a successful conclusion.
- Provides support for other projects within the Collections & Digital Initiatives division as needed.
- Engages in regular professional development through research, publications, presentations and participation in regional and national associations as part of the continuing commitment to bring best practices and innovative services to Ohio University students and faculty.
Qualifications
Required
· A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
· Familiarity with collection management practices and trends.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to data-informed decision making processes.
· Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work in a progressive environment.
· Strong customer service orientation.
Preferred
· Experience with collection evaluation including data collecting and analysis.
· Experience collaborating with colleagues in a research library environment.
· Experience with an integrated library system.
· Successful supervisory experience.
