Bibliographic Specialist for English Language Materials
The Bibliographic Specialist for English-language Resources works in close collaboration with staff responsible for English-language Collection Development and Harvard Library Information and Technical Services to oversee vendor approval plans and manage the English-language collections in Widener Library.
The position will work with the library directors and collection development librarians to:
· Analyze and adjust budget allocations, including approval plans and subscriptions, and make purchase decisions to ensure alignment with current research and teaching needs.
· Liaise with vendors to implement appropriate acquisitions processes and approval plans.
· Develop best practices for continuations received as part of exchange programs, approval plans, or blanket orders.
· Review, search, and make selections from current vendor notification slips and other sources, as identified by and in conjunction with staff responsible for English-language collections.
· Review receipts and assign funds for materials arriving through English-language approval plans at Harvard Library Information and Technical Services.
· Review and implements patron requests.
· Communicate with vendors to claim unfulfilled orders and provide feedback on vendor services
· Complete retrospective and other collection development and management related projects.
Basic Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree, and a Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program for library and information science, required.
· Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant professional experience required.
· Extensive familiarity with bibliography, publishing, and book trades in at least two major English-language countries and experience with book selection required.
· Must have demonstrated understanding of the scholarly research and publishing process.
· Familiarity with bibliographic searching in HOLLIS/Aleph, English-language vendor databases, and with the conventions of cataloging and bibliographic description.
Additional Qualifications
· Second graduate degree in the Humanities and Social Sciences preferred.
· Ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative environment.
· Must be able to sit and keyboard for extended periods of time on a daily basis.
· Occasionally lifting or pushing of boxes weighing up to 20 lbs or pushing book truck up to 40 lbs.
