Librarian I / Curator, Pott Inland Waterways Collection
Overview
The Herman T. Pott National Inland Waterways Library Curator reports to the Executive Director of the St. Louis Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and is responsible for in-depth patron and collection research, selection of books, materials and objects for the collection, assistance in developing and implementing library policies, and donor relations.
Qualifications
Required: An MLS from an ALA accredited institution; excellent written skills, and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred: At least one year of experience in a special collections library, preferably in the fields of transportation or history; a Bachelor's degree in English.
Duties
*Provide in-depth patron reference services, collection research, and tours to students, staff, and patrons in person, and via phone and internet.
*Facilitate usage by collection organization; create and update online and print finding aids and collection access for river research and library collections. Process and maintain object, archival materials, and book collections.
*Supervision of The Waterways Journal indexing project.
*Develop the collection through acquisition of current and out-of-print books, periodicals, and pamphlets. Advise on collection care and preservation.
*Advise, in coordination with the Libraries Technical Services Department, on shelving, binding, and access services related to the book, periodical, and pamphlet collections. Coordinate with the Art Collection Curator the display, rotation, and signage of relevant art, objects, and special exhibitions.
*Supervision of volunteers for special projects.
*Participate in grant writing, donor and advisory board relations and fund-raising work.
*Provide community outreach and educational programming from academic support, to continuing education.
Ranking and Salary: Librarian I; $34,000 per year.
