Job Description:
The AmericanUniversity in Cairo Libraries and Learning Technologies (LLT) seeks a dynamic person with proven leadership and management qualities to motivate and maintain the Main Library’s drive to excellence. The AUC Library holds the largest English-language collection in Egypt and serves the AUC and local scholarly community.
Working closely with and reporting to the Dean for Libraries and Learning Technologies, the Associate Dean for the Main Library will play a key role in implementing the strategic vision for LLT, providing leadership for assessment and change as the Library adapts to the University’s enhanced teaching and research mission. The Associate Dean of the Main Library is responsible for budget and resource planning, policy and program development, operations and personnel, and overall innovation and excellence in the Main Library. The Associate Dean will foster user-centered services, integrated educational and curricular programs, responsive collections and information resources, assessment, and marketing of services.
Requirements:
The candidate must have an ALA-accredited MLS, or international equivalent; at least ten years’ successful leadership in progressively responsible administrative positions preferably in academic libraries; experience in resource allocation and budget preparation with a current annual budget of $6,507,377 (capital and operational), a demonstrated success in human resource management, including the ability to engage staff in improvement and change. A second Masters degree, working knowledge of other languages, and experience in a multicultural environment are highly desirable but not mandatory.

Reporting directly to the Associate Dean for the Main Library, the Director for Collections will have leadership, management, and policy and planning responsibilities for collection management functions, including collection development, cataloging/metadata, acquisitions, serials and e-resource licensing and management. In 2008/09, main Library collections spent a total of $1,928,776 on materials in all formats.
Requirements:
The candidate must have anALA-accredited MLS, excellent oral and written English, significant record of successful leadership in progressively responsible administrative positions, preferably in an academic library environment, and the ability to effect change in an inclusive management style.

These positions are responsible for outreach, reference and instructional services, user support, and collection development. Position Description: Both librarians will be members of the Reference and Instructional Services Department and will be expected to participate in professional development, research, and service activities meet the Libraries' and University's requirements for promotion. The successful candidates will provide general, specialized, and virtual reference and research assistance, participate in the libraries' information literacy and instruction program, contribute to collection management activities, and participate in other activities and projects of the libraries. Weekend hours will be required on a rotating basis. Both positions report to the Head of Reference and Instructional Services in the Green Library.

Successful candidate will manage library and archives facility, as well as information technology systems. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Modern library reference services: maintaining and expanding collection according to library conservation and preservation standards; cataloging (using LCC); providing services to general public, in person and electronically.
Archival services: maintaining collection of rare books, manuscripts, letters, documents, photographs, and maps relating to the life of George Mason and life in colonial Virginia according to archival conservation and preservation standards.
Information technology services: monitoring and coordinating agency IT functions; managing IT systems; maintaining website; using and maintaining library/archival technology applications.
Education/Experience: MLS or MLIS with a minimum of two years experience in a modern reference library. Broad knowledge of information technology, including internet management, required. Knowledge of American history, genealogy, decorative arts, or records management desired. Museum experience preferred.
